About Charlotte…

Charlotte Sargent is both a jumping and natural horsemanship instructor who loves sharing her passion for horses with others. She rode her first horse at the age of three, and started an eventing career as a young teenager. Charlotte trained with some of the top eventing coaches on the east coast and rose through the ranks of Pony Club before moving out west to start her teaching and training career. With over 25 years of equine knowledge and experience both in and out of the show ring, Charlotte enjoys working with people and horses of all ages and experience levels. Incorporating both natural horsemanship and a strong emphasis on positivity-based training into her teaching, she would love to help you reach your equestrian goals! At Salty Horse Stables, you can enjoy a friendly and nurturing environment to learn in, with our wonderful lesson horses and patient training styles.

Charlotte also has a soft spot for rescue and rehab projects, as well as “problem” horses, and has limited openings in her full-board training program.

The Salty Horse Story…

Charlotte got her first forever-horse, Stormy, at age 13. Standing at just 15 hands, Stormy, a thoroughbred/arab/welsh horse, was as feisty…or salty… as they come. He taught her patience, to stick things through, how to be a good listener, and how to stay in the saddle. He dumped her more times than she cares to admit, and on-lookers constantly told her he was “too much horse for her”. Stormy has more attitude and spunk packed into his little body than you can find in an entire herd, and inspired Charlotte to no end. Her love for this little horse sparked her career as a horsewoman - and he is no doubt the face of Salty Horse Stables!

Charlotte spent just as much time learning about horse nutrition, overall maintenance, mineral balancing, and barefoot trimming, as she spent in the saddle - completely dedicated to preserving and caring for Stormy. To this day, at the age of 27, Charlotte still rides and competes Stormy. She believes horse health and happiness is an overall picture of a perfect mix of correct riding, nutrition, and care. With proper care, we can keep a horse thriving well into his or her senior years.

There’s a lot more to successful horse training than just in-saddle work. We have to pay attention to the horse as a whole - the fit of the saddle, diet, exercise, turnout routine, after-riding care, and reasons for learned behaviors.

At Salty Horse Stables, we listen to the horses.

Charlotte’s motto on successful horse (and people) training is “Without fear, without force, without judgement.”
